In the 2016–2017 academic year, the Foundation Faculty was engaged in the following activities:

1) Training of Foundation groups including both in-depth language and university disciplines studying with guaranteed transfer of received credits while studying at university. According to the results of CTA 2017 (Complex Testing of Applicants), the 63 % of graduates were offered educational grants; in addition, they successfully completed three academic disciplines (Foreign Language, Information and Communication Technologies) and were exempt from studying them during a first year .

2) The preparatory division for domestic and international students: The division was established in October 2014 (by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 383 dated 18-September-2014). In the 2016-2017 academic year, the division had a student body of 75 students, who had been enrolled in the public procurement academic programs. The objective of the given division is to help international students adapt to the living in Kazakhstan and meet university entry requirements.

According to approved curricula, the academic program consisted of courses required for passing CTA (Complex Testing of Applicants) (Mathematical Literacy, Kazakhstan History, Reading Literacy, vocation-related subjects corresponding to the chosen career area), and also included the study of the Kazakh, Russian (6 credits) and English (3 credits) languages.

According to the results of CTA 2017, 46 % of the division’s students were offered educational grants.

3) Targeted preparation for UNT (Unified National Testing) and CTA (Complex Testing of Applicants) subjects:

The Foundation Faculty’s fee-paying student body amounted to 549 students (including 322 city school students, 171 village school students (intensive vocational studies) preparing for UNT (Unified National Testing), and 56 graduates of vocational educational institutions preparing for CTA (Complex Testing of Applicants). The 52 % of them were offered state educational grants.

4) Vocation oriented education of pupils receiving basic education: 

In the 2016-2017 academic year, 59 year 10 pupils and 44 year 11 pupils completed the vocation-oriented courses run by the Foundation Faculty. Having passed final examinations, 44 year 11 pupils were awarded the following qualifications: a graphics operator, a computer programmer, a drafter, a food technologist. 

5) Distance preparatory courses 

Twenty-three students attended the faculty’s distance preparatory courses. The 100 % of the faculty’s student body were enrolled at S. Toraighyrov PSU according to the results of repeat CTA 2018 (Complex Testing of Applicants). 

6) Foreign Language Courses 

The language courses have been run by the Foundation Faculty since October 2013. In the 2016-2017 academic year, 70 students were enrolled in the courses. Training costs are calculated by the accounting department of the University and amount to 21,000 KZT. All students, who successfully complete language courses, are awarded certificates of completion acknowledging a student’s language proficiency level.  

 In the 2016-2017 academic year, the faculty had a student body of 940 students. According to the results of CTA 2017 (Complex Testing of Applicants), 61% of the faculty’s student body were enrolled at higher education institutions, and 70% of them enrolled at S. Toraighyrov PSU.

In 2017, the Faculty’s dean was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from Minister Ye. Sagadiyev to recognize her achievements in the field of spiritual and social development of independent Kazakhstan and her contribution to education.
